Blog > Client Spotlights Fundraising 2025-26: Changing Lives Inside and Outside Of Work 12 min read What does it actually mean to be a part of Amore Complex Care? If you ask anyone on our team, they will tell you that caring for people isn’t just a job title you leave at the door when your shift ends. It is a integral part of who we are. Over the last two years, our incredible team members have been laces-tied, gear-on, and completely dialed into supporting causes that hit close to home. From running major marathons to organising widespread community donations, the Amore team always finds a way to go above and beyond. These are the real stories behind the people who make Amore Complex Care such a special place to work. Our Complex Care Client SB and Christina Wallington Go The Distance! In April 2026, Support Worker Christina Wallington took on the considerable challenge of the Adidas Manchester Marathon to raise funds for the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association UK. She ran the grueling 26.2 miles in honour of SB, our Complex Care client. But Christina wasn’t the only one putting in the effort. SB got fully involved in the fundraising too, raising an amazing £110 in just one hour by walking around her local neighbourhood to rally support before the big race. When race day arrived, the whole support team came together to help SB create a bright, heartfelt handmade sign. As Christina crossed the finish line, SB was right there waiting – determined to show Christina just how much her efforts meant to her as someone living with PWS herself. Seeing them celebrate together at the finish line, faced with the overwhelming success of their fundraiser, captured the power of showing up for one another. Andrew Hignett Tackles Men’s Mental Health On The Rugby Pitch Our Support Worker, Andrew Hignett, laced up his rugby boots for a very special cause in March 2026. Taking to the pitch with the Flaming Unicorns — the official team of Tough Enough To Care — he threw himself into their Rugby Extravaganza fundraiser under his nickname ‘Nacho Libre’. Andrew has long used his love of sport to make a difference, previously taking part in fundraising matches for charities such as Wooden Spoon and Wheelchair for Fiji. This time, he stepped onto the field to help shine a light on something that affects so many but is still too often left unspoken: men’s mental health. Tough Enough To Care champions wellbeing for everyone, while placing a vital focus on supporting men who feel pressured to appear “tough” instead of reaching out. Their work challenges stigma, opens conversations, and reminds people that speaking up is a sign of strength. The Flaming Unicorns secured a brilliant 48–42 win on the day – but the real victory was the conversations sparked on and off the pitch by both sides, reminding everyone that it’s always okay to talk and that no one should struggle alone. Leaders Who Give Back – Gareth Potsig and Ian McDougall It’s not just our frontline teams making an impact – our senior leadership team also show commitment for causes that matter. In September 2025, our Commercial Director Gareth crossed the finish line of the world‑famous Berlin Marathon with a brilliant time of 4 hours and 20 minutes. This was his sixth marathon and his third World Marathon Major. He chose to run in support of An Hour for Others, a grassroots Liverpool charity that provides vital support to local families. Having grown up in the city, Gareth knows first-hand how transformative their work is for the community. And he’s already preparing for his next challenge: the Chicago Marathon later in 2026. His dedication shows that the spirit of perseverance runs right through Amore. But Gareth isn’t the only director putting purpose into action. In October 2024, our Group Managing Director Ian McDougall took on a powerful challenge of his own. He joined the Goodison Park Stadium Sleepout, raising an incredible £3,038 for Everton in the Community’s Home Is Where The Heart Is programme. By spending the night exposed to the cold with only a sleeping bag, Ian gained a glimpse into the reality faced by young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. His efforts helped fund essential services including housing support, mental health care, education, and employment pathways – support that can change the trajectory of a young person’s life. Together, Gareth and Ian embody what leadership at Amore truly means: showing up, standing with our communities, and taking action that makes a real difference. The Fundraising Marathons of our Mobilisation Support Manager In June 2025, our Mobilisation Support Manager, Louis Benfield, took on London’s The Big Half Marathon after successfully completing both the Great Manchester 10K and the Northwich 10K. His tireless fundraising for Child Bereavement UK was driven by his understanding of how important it is for young people to have compassionate, specialised support when they’re navigating the pain of bereavement. By raising awareness and funds, Louis is helping ensure that more families get the empathy, care, and guidance they need during their darkest hours. Our Office Team Conquered Snowdon for Alder Hey Children’s Charity Louis’ fundraising momentum didn’t stop at ground level. He gathered our Amore Complex Care office-based teams, and together they laced up their hiking boots and headed to Wales to tackle Snowdon’s peak. Taking on the challenging Ranger path, the team battled steep inclines and a particularly tricky scramble across stone and scree. It was tougher than anyone expected, but the team rallied together to push for the summit. They collectively raised an incredible £1,300 for Alder Hey Children’s Charity. Every single penny raised from this climb went directly to Alder Hey to fund state-of-the-art technology for vital children’s care. It also funded wonderful initiatives like ward musicians and play specialists, ensuring that brave young people get the true VIP treatment they deserve during hospital stays. Some of our hikers hit the ultimate peak, others reached a personal milestone along the way, and we could not be more proud of them all for the effort put into funding such a vital cause. Our Quality Assurance Lead Spreading Joy Across Merseyside Our team’s community spirit was out in full force for Easter 2025, thanks to the wonderful leadership of our Quality Assurance Lead, Peggie Gleeson. Peggie headed up our annual Easter egg collection for the local charity, Everton in the Community, and the results were nothing short of extraordinary. In 2024, our team collected 99 Easter eggs to support local kids’ clubs. Thanks to the generosity of our staff and local supporters, we didn’t just beat that target in 2025 – we far surpassed it, gathering an incredible 308 Easter eggs. More than triple our previous record, our collection supported low-income families across Merseyside. Peggie personally delivered the mountain of chocolate to Goodison Park, where the eggs were shared among regional residential homes, children’s groups, and the Blue Base Pantry to bring a bit of holiday joy to families facing food insecurity. And this wasn’t the only time Peggie rallied our team for a good cause. Just a few months later, she also led our Christmas 2025 toy collection, once again partnering with Everton in the Community to ensure children across the region received gifts during the festive season. The toys were distributed through the charity’s community networks, helping to make Christmas brighter for families who needed a little extra support. Peggie’s dedication – and the generosity of everyone who contributed – continues to show what’s possible when our workplace comes together. At the end of the day, these stories aren’t just about marathon times or fundraising totals. They are about the hearts behind the people who make up Amore Complex Care. Whether our fundraisers are to support mental health, raising disability awareness, helping grieving families, or making sure local children have a treat for the holidays, our Support Workers, office and leadership teams bring the same passion to the community as they do to our Complex Care clients’ support.
