Home > Case studies > Paul Rice, Support Worker Paul Rice, Support Worker Why did you want to join Amore Complex Care? I wanted a job that really matters, where you can help people live their best life and see the happiness that comes from that. Honestly, I couldn’t work a job where it is the same every day. What do you love most about your role? Everything, my job really is my passion, but I love doing all the activities with the client I support. They really like going on the train and doing cooking with a day centre. My nan taught me how to cook and I really enjoy doing it, so it is always a joy to share that with my client. We also do bowling together and going out to the bingo, they really enjoy that. I think seeing them get so proud of themselves when they achieve things is my favourite part of the job – it makes me so happy, celebrating the client I support when they achieve something like getting a spare or a strike in 10-pin bowling! Recently, we went out to Liverpool and they were having a great time fist bumping and high-fiving people on the street. Tell us your experience at Amore Complex Care. It’s nice to work with a team that really cares. My management is great – I also want to say the nurses, Meg and Tonya, reallly help too. As to what I’ve been getting up to, I’ve been learning Makaton recently. My client signs with me as well as the other clients within the day service, and I have recently begun to learn the signs they make for the different activities we do there. I started with the Makaton alphabet, then learned a few signs each day related to the activities they do. Doing that few a day meant I didn’t overload myself, but by learning signs little and often I was able to communicate better with them and the other clients of the day centre. What advice do you have for someone considering a career at Amore Complex Care? Just make sure your heart is in the right place! As long you care about your client and doing a good job, it will be an absolute pleasure. Describe your job in one word and why It’s a bit cheesy, but I’d say it’s a joy. I’m so lucky I get to work in this role and see the happiness on my client’s face. Tell us a fun fact about yourself On my time off, I spend as much time with my little girl as I can. As I mentioned, cooking has been a big part of my life since I was a child, and I’m passing on all of the family recipes to her. She is so grown up already, making Nan’s fruitcake recipe and stirring up the batter for Pancake Day. Want to Make a Difference?
